The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has come to reflect the urban and cultural renewal of a city that, at one time, was mainly known for its industrial background. With the Guggenheim, designed by Frank O. Gehry and inaugurated in 1997, Bilbao forever secured its place on the international art scene.Curvilinear and twisted shapes, coated in limestone, glass curtains and enormous titanium sheets bend and fold, as if they were the sails of a giant boat anchored in the river.
THE REAL THING invites you to take advantage of the building’s design to look at things from multiple points of view, and visit the works of Louise Bourgeois, Jeff Koons and Richard Serra outside on the museum grounds. And on the inside, the work of great 20th century artists is on display, from Picasso, Mondrian, Yves Klein and Rothko, through to Juan Muñoz, Kiefer and Boltanski, along with outstanding temporary exhibits.
Would you like to discover the building’s secrets rooms? We’ll take you. Do you want to access areas which are closed to the public, and peek behind hidden doors? Just ask us. Tell us what you’d like to do. Visual arts, architecture, city visits… Our specialists would be happy to take you on any of their routes.
