Probably nowhere else in the world are there so many recent examples of a benign and appropriate attitude towards creating a civic setting for the next century.
David Rock, Jury’s President, RIBA, 1999

After the impulse that led to the celebration of the 1992 Olympics, Barcelona launched into a race for modernization that has turned it into a must pilgrimage location for architecture lovers. Arata Isozaki, Herzog & de Meuron, Jean Nouvel, Richard Meyer, Norman Foster, Frank Gehry as well as the Spaniards Enric Miralles, Oriol Bohigas and Rafael Moneo design the path to contemporary Barcelona. The city was awarded in 1999 the ” Royal Gold Medal” of the Royal Institute of British architects (RIBA), an award usually bestowed to an individual for the body of his or her architectural work and for the first and only time granted to a city.

THE REAL THING has designed a unique visit to Barcelona where a specialist leads the way and helps you understand how the latest architectural designs transform an urban environment while also enjoying public art works by artists of the calibre of Claes Oldenburg, Richard Serra, Roy Lichtenstein, Mario Merz and Lawrence Weiner.
