How our art world roots shaped the way we design itineraries.
Before we launched The Real Thing in 2013, we spent our careers immersed in the world of art curating exhibitions, working alongside artists, and shaping cultural narratives in galleries and institutions across Spain and beyond. At first glance, it may seem like a leap to move from contemporary art into the luxury travel space. But for us, the transition was not only natural, it was inevitable.
We both came from a world where meaning, beauty, and context matter deeply. Where storytelling is layered, sensory, and nuanced. Where the most powerful experiences aren’t always the most obvious, but the ones that invite you in and move you from within. In many ways, that is exactly how we approach travel.

What sparked The Real Thing was a shared realisation. We saw how people were travelling through the Iberian Peninsula and, quite frankly, it was not how we would have done it as locals. Rushed itineraries, generic experiences, and missed opportunities to connect with the richness of place.
We knew there was another way. One that was more personal, culturally sensitive, and immersive, an alternative that was thoughtful, soulful, and designed with care.
We treated each itinerary like an exhibition to be curated or an essay to be written. Every journey is thoughtfully composed, balancing rhythm and tone, layering highlights with quiet discoveries, always attuned to the client’s interests, pace, and personal style. Whether it's a private viewing at a museum, an encounter with a winemaker or designer, or simply the perfect table at the perfect moment, we design with the same precision and creativity we once brought to our exhibitions and our writing.
Our background in the art world also taught us to listen closely, ask the right questions, and always leave room for the unexpected. We’ve spent years building relationships with remarkable people: artists, chefs, hoteliers, guides who share our vision for thoughtful, soulful travel. These are the people who help us open doors that few even know exist.
Curating group exhibitions taught us how to manage complexity, just as solo shows sharpened our attention to detail. Today, whether we’re designing a multigenerational celebration in the Basque Country or a romantic escape along the Alentejo coast, those same principles apply: beauty, purpose, and impeccable execution.

As co-owners of The Real Thing, we each bring our own voice and perspective. Marta’s love of nature, film, and cultural storytelling weaves into every journey she touches. Glòria’s global art experience and deep sense of aesthetic shape her intuitive, emotionally resonant approach. Together, we’ve built a company that reflects who we are: contemporary, curious, and deeply rooted in the culture we love.
For us, travel is an art form. And just like art, the best journeys stay with you long after the suitcase is unpacked.
