We all know Portugal is wonderful for sightseers, Port wine enthusiasts and foodies. But what about the active travelers? The outdoor lovers? The nature wanderers? Let us take you to one of the most breathtaking hiking trails in the country for an excursion to remember.

Passadiços de Mondego is a charming hiking route through wooden walkways that follows the Mondego River and is surrounded by the astonishing biodiversity of Serra de Estrela.

Estrela Geopark, recognized by UNESCO, is one of the most beautiful spots in the country, and allows visitors to see and enjoy areas that were previously out of sight.

 

 

The river’s crystal-clear waters and its surroundings have thriving ecosystems. Just be on the lookout for charming local friends such as river kingfishers or Iberian green frogs, you wouldn’t want to miss them!

Some ancient stone factories can also be seen from some viewpoints and bridges, making the route even more charming.

The park also offers routes for families and people with limited mobility. Everyone is welcome to marvel at this magical open space, with spectacular waterfalls and architectural sites to enjoy from some of its bridges. Have your camera ready, or just enjoy and be present.

Where?
North-East of Portugal, less than a 2-hour drive from Porto (around 97 miles) and very close to Douro Valley.
When?
The route is open for you to enjoy all year round, but we recommend Spring and Autumn to get the best light, temperature, and scenery.
Why?
Escape from the city’s hustle and bustle and embrace clean air, openness, and breathtaking views in such an important natural territory.

We are a small but strong team led by Marta Muñoz Recarte and Glòria Pou. Both of us had long-standing careers in the art world until 2013, when our passion for travel led us to create THE REAL THING.

We are based in Madrid and Barcelona, where we design and oversee your journeys. We have a close-knit network of choice collaborators that make us the really top DMC we are. They include hoteliers with class, tour guides with cachet and chauffeurs with an eye for detail and impeccable timing; people who hold the keys to historic and unique buildings, art curators, cultural ambassadors and personal shoppers; contacts at the trendiest restaurants and bars of our cities, musicians, DJs, flamenco dancers, chefs, sommeliers, bartenders… Farmers and winegrowers, ceramicists, cheesemakers, sports instructors, massage therapists, fishermen, percebeiras (goose barnacle hunters), sailboat captains, jugglers, magicians… Want to meet them?
